Diversity At It's Finest.
This is a new one.
Ok, so I get to the airport on my trip for work to Arizona. I have some time to spare so I stop in to Rock Bottom bar near my gate for a little writing and a glass of Cabernet.
It was a later flight, 9:56 p.m., so the kitchen was closing, and apparently everything else. I had my wine and at about 9:15 p.m. a little foreign lady, long dress and scarf, comes to my area with a broom. This little lady is one determined sweeper. She starts moving chairs, mine and the others around the table next to me, sweeping fervently. Surely she wouldn’t start moving the chairs around my table and sweeping under my table while I was sitting and sipping and writing? Yes, she would. I was stunned, amused even. I only wondered how much dust was getting in my wine glass. I motioned for her to go away and she motioned for me to stand up…and at the crumbs under my feet. She started moving my table away from the wall in order to sweep up those crumbs. She’s pointing under my table gesturing how she has to sweep… I motioned back… go away. I was intensely finishing my writing, trying to concentrate. I replied, “No. Come back later.”
She said in broken English, “I have to do the work.”
The waitress came over to leave the bill. I asked, "will you tell her to go away?" She witnessed her vigilance and militance moving of my table and chairs, sweeping, head down...determined. She said I will get the manager. A little while later the manager comes over and sweeps her away. He offered me another glass of wine, but I had to catch a flight. Wow. That's diversity gone amuck. I wanted to slip her a $5 bill just so she'd remember how stupid she was. But thought better of it.
