Everything is Big In Texas

Em pulled out a map of San Antonio that was as big as her queen sized bed. Everything is big in Texas. She had it all planned out. First stop after airport: Art exhibit: Red Hot where Asian artists showed just how F’d up they’ve become since WWII. Lots of Mao Ts Tung references and atom bomb images. Oh Well.
We had a photo shoot that took all of 5 minutes near downtown Sugar Land, the town actually had a sugar cane factory until the labor unions destroyed the very thing the claimed to protect: Jobs. We then took our leave and headed for San Antonio Texas.

We called the Drury Inn and Suites on the RiverWalk. We at first chose to stay at the Drury Plaza and got a room because they said that you just walked outside and there was the River Walk. Well, upon first glance we knew that couldn’t be. First of all we parked outside the hotel and saw the boyz in the hood hanging out across the street at the Aztec. It was dark and gave us both the creeps. So, we went to check in and to make sure we wouldn’t have to cross the street and walk a few blocks to the River walk. Well we asked Alicia and she said we go to the basement on the elevators and it’s right there. Well, again, that couldn’t be so. So, we convinced her to call the other Drury again cause it was really on the river. So, she called over for us and gave us the cheaper rate even. We were so pleased to get the hotel on the Riverwalk…for real. So, we asked for directions and she wrote them on a yellow sticky for us to follow. She wanted us to take a left at Market, a left at Navarro a Left at College and another Left at St. Mary’s. Well, we were thinking we were so smart and we headed off following the lefts… which in realty took us in a short circle to other Drury which was simply next door! Do not let us out on our own. Funny. The Riverwalk was a bit further down than we wanted but turned out just fine, especially after a margarita. We had a fun time in the morning at breakfast with our waiter Stephan from Germany. Em substituted a bran muffin and he had to run next door to another hotel to get one as the cook wasn’t in yet!

Here I am driving down I-37 S to Corpus Christi. We won’t go all the way there, but will veer off on the way to Rock Port. This is the destination Em has wanted me to see since we met. She has it all planned out, dolphin watching in kayaks near Mud Island. We will see how it goes.

Saturday we Kayaked in the bay. Bob, Em’s husband drove us around in his great boat dropped us off in the kayaks and let us maneuver around the dolphins mating in the bay. What fun. I can still hear the dolphins blowing from behind me… see them jumping and mating in the bay.

He even brought us to the Gulf of Mexico… what a trip: 3 foot squalls… we saw huge ships, barges, lots of other boaters. Thanks Bob.

We ate at the Boiling Pot… where they cooked shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes and threw it out on the table to eat.

After dinner, Em and I went out at dark on a kayak ride I the almost full moon. It was beautiful. The streets around the neighborhood are the canals to the bay. We came upon a tree filled with Egrets…. We counted 35 of them roosting in the tree. We went out again early in the A.M., saw a few dolphins mating again. A little cloudy and rough, but fun anyway. I am tuckered out.

"Do not let us out on our own." That is so funny! You should have that as your IM personal saying. BTW: Lasha did the same circle thing trying to find her way from Walmart to Lowes recently. Must be genetic.
