2nd day Of Christmas

Christmas Eve Day
Got to wondering if I am counting the days backward. If so, consider it tough luck.
I am sitting in the house alone, listening to DMB on DVD live from the Gorge. How our Christmas’s have changed. They are still delightful. We will have lobster tonight, try not to poison Angelo and open gifts. Too many gifts, mind you. Like always, but change apparently is hard for us.This afternoon I took in a movie with Shammai and Jada. Jada insisted on paying as it was Shammai's first ever movie in a theater. He was stoked. It was peanut M&Ms, popcorn and soda and by the end of the movie he was running up and down the isles. He doesn't take his sugar well.
We saw Charlotte's Web and it was good.... for a nap. I was able to doze off. Jada wrestled with her boy. However, pay careful attention: Charlotte's Web was written by one of my favorite essayists and authors E.B White His story may have been based on his essay, Death of A Pig, written Autumn 1947 from Essays of E.B. White. “The scheme of buying a spring pig in blossomtime …and butchering it when the cold weather arrives is a familiar scheme to me… It is a tragedy enacted on most farms … The murder, being premeditated, is in th first egree but is quick and skillful, an the smoked bacon an ham provide a ceremonial ending whose fitness is seldom questioned.”

His essays rock, I own three of his books and read them often. I cut out his obituraries and the articles by commentators upon his death and have them saved in “Letters of E.B. White”. . . He is an influence on me and my writing and thought processes about many things. In the 50s he said :I am a member of a party of one, taking issue with alleged communists were being called out one by one. In one it quoted him saying, "I liked to write and there seems to be much to write about. " He wrote for many major periodicals and newspapers. He also wrote Strunk and White's elements of style, the final word on grammar and style. White battled alzhiemers and died in 1985 and he lives on in his poignant writings and children's stories. He lived and wrote from a farm in the East and was a commentator on events of his day. He really did love a simpler time and Charlotte's web shows that. Slow moving and sentimental. Not necessarily made for special effects and Hollywood. I plan to pull out his essays and give them another read.
Angelo and Jada and Shammai went to Church. They just arrived....
I must go and prepare dinner. Merry Christmas.

The Evening Went Off Without A Hitch
In case you were wondering, since no one called. We enjoyed Shammai's excitement at opening not one or two, but 13 dinosaurs. Some make hideous sounds, others walk around. Some just stand silent. We had a great night... no complaints.

I had a great time. The day went slowly. The food was one of the best. Of course it is hard to wreck Lobster and steak. We all opened our gifts. Shammai looked wiped out at nights end. By the by....... your blog went on and on about a stupid movie which was not even on my radar as a Christmas thing.
