Sinco Ouchomingo's

Peru requires blood, sweat and tears, not to mention Tetenus, Yellow fever, Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid. I'm covered. A little woman with a hunch back took care of me today. She's been doing travel immunizations since the division began. She's a nice woman, kindly and calm. She has a 17 month old grandson and one daughter. She's thrilled about it.
But this shot business is quite the racket. To get the immunizations necessary to travel for volunteer work to care for orphans in a daycare in Peru, I had to lay down $650 cash, an hour of my time, parking hassles and endure pain from poking with needles. There were seven of us in today. Apparently some kind of record. Other days there may be none, some days two, sometimes three. But today there were seven of us. A rush on foreign travel it seems. So, in this hospital on the fifth floor tucked into an office with bout 15 staffers, travelers, employees and who knows who sit and wait to get injected.
It hurt just a bit. It hurts worse now because of the muscle ache and my body fighting off infection. It will be worth every grimus and sore muscle, no doubt. But yikes, I'm seriously fatiqued, both arms are sore from five shots and my checking account is drained. I had horse back riding lessons and persevered in spite of fatique and aches.
But, it's only a few months away and I will fly to Ayacucho, via Minneapolis, Houston and Lima. A blast from my past.
More to come.
