Grammar Secrets

Ok. So, I admit to bad grammar. I finally found a book that is not only helpful but actually funny. Check it out yourselves at : http://www.grammarsnobs.com/
I highly recommend it to all.
LANGUAGE TIP OF THE WEEK: A well-timed utterance of the word "shat" will earn you great respect at your local biker bar.

LANGUAGE TIP OF THE WEEK FOR PEOPLE WHOSE THIRST FOR KNOWLEDGE WAS NOT FULLY QUENCHED BY THE "SHAT" JOKE:

Despite the fact that he was reading from a written speech, George W. Bush made an error when he said that a terrorist recruiter had "sought out young men from Southeast Asia, whom he believed would arouse less suspicion."

Yes, the pronoun is an object here, the object of "sought out," which suggests it should be "whom." But it's also a subject performing the verb "arouse." And (here's the tip), whenever it's both an object and a subject, it gets the subject form: "who."

Don't believe me? Try plugging in "they" and "them" in the Bush quote and you'll see that the subject form is the right one. "He believed them would arouse less suspicion"? Or, "He believed they would arouse less suspicion"?

This is really quite good. Not that I am a judge by any means, but it is helpful and practical and humorous. Why didn't they write this for me in 7th grade? Would have been helpful.

Ok. So my latest bitch. Was at a conference in Las Vegas this past week. In honor of Easter or Passover. It was an electronic transaction conference. Very productive. I enjoyed it all the way. was actually dreading it, but it was so well worth my time it made me wonder why I don't go more. Well, that was until I took Northwest Airlines home from vegas.
That airline is infuriating. It was on time, the least of successes for an airline these days, the lowest of standards as to a good flight as they pad the time anyway so they are always miraculously early. In any case, Northwest happens to own the Minneapolis Airport. They are based there. They have control of gates, flight times and whatever the hell they want...even the highest prices of any airlines we are told to Minnesota flyers only as our gift to them for being so great. Anyway, we leave late as usual from Vegas and arrive 15 minutes late. Not so bad really I am not complaining. But, there were many people connecting flights and it was apparent that the personnel didn't give a rats a___.
Not a word of apology or can we help you to your gate or would the passenges let the late onesout so they can get their flight... Not a word between the do you see the Grand Canyon on your left and Lake Powell on your right. We land in Mpls and it's 9:30 ish. We were to arrive 10 minutes earlier and people are getting restless. We not only land late, we land at a gate that apparently isnt ready. Don't they know what gates are open since they had a plane load of connectors on the flight? Dont they call ahead and say, we're going to mess up 100s of people's lives is their a gate open so we can get in sooner? But, O no. That's not the NWA way!
They actually try to find the farthest gate from civilization possible in the airport so the connectors not only have to wait in their seats till a gate opens up, but it's the farthest gate from their connecting flight so people are pushing and shoving and pleading to be let out first as the attendents smile a disinterested smile at the passengers.

They must have more sense and clout than that, but it's apparent they may have it but don't choose to use it because they are the most unhappy, disgruntled union shop in the country.

So. There. I said it.
I feel better.

About traveling. I had just read Lucky, a book about a woman who was brutally raped. Traveling alone is not a good idea after reading such a thing. But I felt safe and was very comfortable in The Hotel of Mandalay Bay. It might make a good trip sometime. It is not necessary to gamble, one can lay out poolside, attend the spa eat sushi and listen to old rock and roll bands. How would I know any of that? I just saw people doing it... that's all. I was all work work work.

Latest music I am listening to: Frou Frou
Books I am reading: Grammar Snobs, The Blind Assassin, Lucky.

Picked out Adriel's flowers today while she day dreamed about Joel's visit. Will be nice flowers.
Pretty in pink kind. Soft pink roses and Orchids with long stems, 10" bouquet and brown ribbon. Lovely.

Ok. Any comments?
You all suck

I'm not real big on grammar learning at my age but I do agree with NWA sucking. Sometimes I get a great flight and good service and sometimes everything is a complete failure. They are trying to fill up every flight every time right now. I think that the people on board suck with all the carry-on luggage. The planes are crowded so everyone tries to get on before everyone else and use up all the carry-on space. The last people on board are doomed to return back thru the crowded airplane to send their luggage to the belly of the plane. As far as Vegas....One of my favorite hotels is The Hotel on the back of the Mandalay Bay. I can be there for three days and not spend one dollar at the casino. Personaly: Vegas sucks

I am pretty well at talking good.
I can't stand NWA or really any other airline besides American (which BTW is too expensive for me to fly as much as I want).
